The loss of sand in the recent stormy weather is more obvious from this picture I took at Inatel earlier this afternoon. The recent tides had come right up the wall.

Had a look at Falesia on Friday morning.
Like above, the sea has been right up to the back of the beach to the bottom of the cliff face.
Most of the sand they pumped on there last year, which must have cost millions of Euros, has gone. Almost back to how it was before they started the operation last spring.
I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

Glorious morning for a beach walk, Salgado to Gale, as has been said though, nature, via the sea, has taken many, many tons of sand off the beaches. Some serious rectification needed and darn soon as the season approaches.
Today was a very low tide but there was plenty of evidence of very high tides, the sea has been right up to the small cliff faces at the back of the beach.
What it has brought is shells, millions of them, easy pickings for anyone wanting.
A few pics....

I wonder if the powers that be get that ship back offshore and pump sand up out of the bay again? From what you and others have said several beaches need this before the season begins.

The ship did about half a mile of beach on Falesia last year and that took 4 months so very unlikely that they're gonna fix many of them before the summer.
Waste of time anyway as they can't afford to keep doing it on umpteen beaches year after year.
As we have found out in Norfolk this week, the sea will eventually win.

This very photogenic spot will be familiar to a lot of people, usually though, the bottom of the hole is where the sand is and you get a lovely frame for a picture. This shows how much sand the sea has taken, four feet plus!!!

Not sure these photo's show it but we walked through the tunnel to Fisherman's and were quite shocked by the amount of sand that's gone!

We were at Salgados beach today and they've had a digger pushing the sand back up to create a plateau at the back of the beach where the sunloungers and cafe are.
