What are the town planners thinking!!!
It’s not as if there’s a shortage and to sacrifice any of that golden vista... beggars belief.

I don't think there has been any town planning thinking for over 30 years.......sad but true.

indeed what are the planners thinking, no doubt a backhander swayed their minds Wink
no doubt it will be a goldmine for rocarmar in the tourist season can't imagine it being a cheap eat place ... And now there will be even less space on that side of the beach,

Sacrilege. This is not a clever move. Once you allow one everyone will want one.

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

There was a beach bar place there many moons ago when the beach was much narrower. It was washed away in a storm. Now that the tide no longer comes up to the base of the cliff I guess they are thinking it is safe to build again.

Town planning here = how large is your  inducement. Witness as we do how many half built  or empty ruins adorn the landscape.

And here is Gale East, gorgeous, would have been rude not to have a beer or two!

Bob, the “new” bar is gone, completely, like it never existed!

Possibly, but one hell of an expense .. they were plumbed in for gas, electric, water, waste... but take your point.
Easter will tell us all..

Just glorious out here, in the 20's again this afternoon, unreal for mid January but long may it continue.
Saw this around lunchtime today, Fisherman's Beach (well it was once!) and thought it a great pic, hope you do to!

The structure on Peneco beach is described on the official notice as 'Apoio Praia'. I found a paper that says it will incorporate public toilets and beach showers as well as 'commercial functions' ie beach café. All of those were available in one shape or form until storms destroyed them. Now the beach is much wider of course and the sea no longer comes up that far. Yesterday they weren't working, but a large number of very substantial wooden piles are now to be seen and some massive beams are stacked ready to be laid on them, maybe 30 cm square and 12 metres long. That will create a platform for the building to sit on.

I will get some pictures tomorrow.

There's an official announcement in Portuguese at https://www.cm-albufeira.pt/content/constru-o-de-apoio-de-praia-na-praia-do-peneco

Construction is expected to be finished in time for this summer.
