Next time you are over make contact. There are plenty of us who live here who would be happy to hold a set of keys and check things out in times of trouble,

The cat had been trying to get into a derelict building and failed, so was glaring at me in its frustration.

Much discussion in bars about piles of boulders that have appeared at the Ave de Liberade. Perhaps hard core for new stronger road. We shall see.

Just arrived yesterday. Nothing much to report from Acoteias although the shops at Miraparque were flooded - water about 2ft deep according to the girls who work in Coviran supermarket.
Have also just read this on Trip Advisor - review of somebody staying at Pine Cliffs/Sheraton.

"Just back after weeks stay.Weather marvellous but could not enjoy award winning beach as access wiped away three weeks ago by storm.
We were told repairs unlikely to be complete before Christmas.
Resort more a five star building site, half restaurants and bars closed, half swimming pools (including indoor) closed and now no beach access"

We shall be going to have a look & hopefully take some pictures later on today
I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

Now we know what the boulders are for.

Work continues, but I will go so far to say that anyone in the flooded area that wants to be open is now open. The big tourist restaurants and bars that wouldn't be open anyway at this time of year are taking their time to rebuild and mend. The Avenida 25 de Abril down to the pier is therefore pretty deserted as is 'Bar Street' although I spotted that JC bar is open.

I have a few more pictures taken yesterday which I will sort out in a while.

Squads of men are busy replacing the cobblestones around the square and Avenida.

Just wanted to thank Cubsur as others have done for keeping us all well informed, we have a holiday home near immortals ground, that fortunately wasn't affected but we spend a lot of our time in the old town when over, just hope it doesn't spoil the New Year celebrations. Party

Couldn't get anywhere near the reported walkway but did manage a few pictures from the cliff top.
Will be going down to Olhos D'Agua in the next couple of days to have a look round there.

Hi Tom

I just wondered if you had any news about O Vitor, the hardware shop?  I am worried that their roof was exhausted before it all started.

I asked a while back but you probably didn't notice in the busyness of it all.  Thanks for the pictures and the updates though.

Further to your offer of being a key holder for people! Fab :-)

Wendy
